How to Sponsor An Artist

  1. Admit you are powerlessness over your own creative impulses and give in to them.
  2. Realize that taste is subjective then do something or someone you like, but don’t take it personally if s/he/it doesn’t do you the same way.
  3. Learn to breathe properly. It helps you stay conscious.
  4. Admit to other human beings that you secretly long to be one of them.
  5. Be neither falsely modest nor arrogantly sure of “talent.” Unless you have it.
  6. Put some money in the jar, hat or whatever if someone’s work makes you stop for a while. Cash, check or PayPal accepted.
  7. Put out your own hat, jar or whatever at some point in your life. Especially at retirement.
  8. Learn to be unafraid to make a fool of yourself. You do it often enough anyhow.
  9. Stop worshipping celebrity for its own sake. Are ya listening, God?
  10. Don’t believe that teaching is not doing…time.
  11. Believe in Art as both something and nothing other than that goofy, nerdy guy who asked you out and you turned down freshman year, and is now worth billions.
  12. Live your life before someone else does it for you.
