From a Dirty Spoon Sitting in the Sink During a Party
(or From My Father Lying in His Grave)

by Hugo dos Santos

I
am still

watching you
from far away
where I stand alone,
when far from here you laugh.
The wait is longer alone.
The green-blue pale-white distance laughs.
All that between us sits, laughs. Mocks.
The daylight dances about you & laughs.
You stop. Glance over.
Still you laugh. I watch still.

You come to me when you please,
single serving all with ease.
The days come & go at will
& you, grayer, you laugh still.
